In the current economic climate many people are struggling to manage debt, coupled with the rising cost of living. If you are finding yourself falling behind with repayments there are many organisations that will provide non-judgemental debt support and advice. It is never too late to seek help.

Debt advice

  • Turn2Us is a national charity that helps people in financial hardship to gain access to welfare benefits, charitable grants and support services.
  • The Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) is particularly good when it comes to debt or advice on welfare benefits and have offices on most towns and is an excellent place to start. For those residing in Scotland locations of Citizens Advice Scotland offices can be found on the website.
  • National Debtline will provide free confidential and independent advice on how to deal with debt problems.
  • StepChange Debt Charity are particularly good at giving free practical debt advice and will help you step by step through the process and help get you back in control of your money.
  • Christians Against Poverty (CAP) is a national debt counselling charity with a network of 92 centres based in local churches. CAP offers hope and a solution to anyone in debt through its unique, in-depth service.
  • The Money Advice Service offers free and impartial money advice which has been set up by government. It offers advice and guides to help improve your finances, as well as tools and calculators to help you keep track and plan ahead. You can also tap in to support in person, over the phone and online.

Debt support for Armed Forces personnel

The Forces Connect app provides signposting to local support, including Debt Advice, for Armed Forces personnel, veterans and their loved ones.
