What is a Devolved Nation?

Devolution in the UK has created a national Parliament in Scotland and Wales and a national Assembly in Northern Ireland. In simple terms, this process transfers power from the UK Parliament to the Devolved Nations, with the UK Parliament retaining authority over the Devolved Administrations.

Why does it matter?

You may be moving to a Devolved Nation for an assignment, or if you are leaving Service. When relocating you need to be aware of the devolved matters and the implications for you and your family, including:

  • health and social care
  • education and training
  • local government and housing
