Armed Forces Remuneration has released an Local Overseas Allowance (LOA) explainer document to help Service personnel understand how the allowance is constructed, including answers to frequently asked questions.
What is the purpose of LOA
The aim of LOA is to contribute towards the necessary additional local cost of day-to-day living when Service personnel are required to serve overseas; either on a permanent, temporary, exercise, Seagoing or (if applicable) Operational basis.
Following changes to how LOA is calculated, which started in 2021, an explainer document has been created to provide clarity.
