A study to discover how challenges families face overseas can be addressed has edged closer.
RAND Europe has been selected by the RAF Families Federation along with the Army and Naval Families Federations, to conduct research into UK Forces families experiences of their overseas postings cycle.
The research intends to determine the hidden need among the Armed Forces community and identify where support is needed most.
RAF Families Federation Director, Andrea Devlin MBE said:
Overseas postings can be isolating, especially for families with children or those navigating dual-career challenges. By investing in tailored support, the Valuing Forces Families Overseas programme reinforces the Armed Forces Covenant’s commitment to fair treatment and recognition for those who serve—and those who support them. This is more than just a project – it’s a promise to listen, learn, and lead change.
Not-for-profit research organisation RAND Europe, will use various methods to gather information including focus groups involving forces families.
The findings will inform projects funded for 4 years by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust.
A resulting report will provide advice and suggestions to the RAF, Royal Navy, Army, the Government and MOD to take into account when deciding policy for UK forces families overseas.
