Customer story: Certificate of Good Conduct

Thursday 20th January 2022

How the RAF Families Federation (RAFFF) helped RAF family member, Louise, to obtain a Certificate of Good Conduct on her return to the UK, from accompanying on an overseas deployment.

Certificate of Good Conduct required for job application

Having returned to the UK from an overseas posting Louise needed a Certificate of Good Conduct (a Police and criminal check) to support a DBS check for an employment opportunity at a school. It is an overseas background check required to cover the two-year period when Louise was living overseas.

Unsure how to go about obtaining one, Louise approached the RAFFF for guidance.

Process for overseas criminal record check explained

On exploring this issue further, the Support and Outreach Team identified the Service Police Bureau Vetting officer could provide the necessary checks, at no cost. We were able to advise Louise of the process and appropriate contact information so she could get the paperwork she required.

Certificate of Good Conduct obtained

Louise used the services of the Service Police Bureau Vetting Officer and within a couple of days had the necessary paperwork.

Louise said:

“Without the help of the RAFFF, even at a signposting level, I wouldn’t have known who to ask or where to turn to for this clearance. I may well have lost the job opportunity as a result. Ken from the RAFFF was friendly, easy to talk to, fast and efficient and really helpful and thank you again for your help.”
