The Secretary of State for Defence on 24 July 2018 announced the extension of the Education Support Fund (ESF), on a limited basis, for an additional two years. The fund will consist of £3 million in 2018/19 and £2 million in 2019/20.
The Directorate of Children and Young People (DCYP) has received 224 applications from state schools and Local Authorities throughout the UK for funding from the ESF 19 round. All applications have now been scored and funding panels have awarded £3M to 76 successful applicants. Result letters are currently being forwarded to all applicants.
The main reason for the extension of the ESF was ongoing rebasing and this has been reflected in the funding allocations. The bidding round for the 2020 ESF (£2M) is due to open in June 2018. More details will be published in the New Year.
The ESF is open to publicly funded schools, Academies and Free Schools in the UK attended by Service children whose parents are subject to exceptional mobility and/or deployment. Applications from Local Authorities in support of these schools can also be accepted.
DCYP, the MOD’s professional focal point for all matters relating to children and young people associated with the armed forces, are the lead organisation administering and supporting the fund. Any queries should be addressed to [email protected].
