The Royal Air Forces Association is offering places in the Great North Run to keen runners and fundraisers.
The Association has a limited number of places for this popular event on Sunday 8 September. It is always oversubscribed, so the charity is encouraging runners to register early.
Starting and finishing in Newcastle upon Tyne, the 13.1 mile course is always lined with supporters cheering runners (and walkers) on all the way from the iconic Tyne Bridge to the coast in South Shields.
Helen Tempest, Challenge Events Manager at the Association, says:
“Whether you’re an experienced runner or a keen beginner, we would welcome your interest. Places go quickly, so getting in early is vital.
“Your registration fee will be half that of registering directly with the race organisers, we just ask that you to raise funds to help us continue to support members of the RAF family when they need us.”
Sue loved the Great North Run, commenting:
“Running the GNR was an amazing experience for a previous couch potato like me. The fantastic crowds cheering you on, seeing so many people running for charities close to their hearts and the Red Arrows flying overhead all added to the unique atmosphere of the day.”
Money raised will go towards the charity’s welfare projects for serving and former serving RAF personnel and their families, such as Storybook Wings. This popular project gives serving personnel working away from home the opportunity to record bedtime stories for their children. Sound effects and music are added by volunteer editors to create a really special keepsake for children missing a parent.
