Today, 8th March, marks International Women’s Day. Here we talk about the 2021 theme and celebrate the achievement of women in the RAF.
Choose to Challenge
The theme for International Women’s Day 2021 is ‘Choose To Challenge‘. It’s about challenging gender bias and inequity and celebrating women’s achievements.
A challenged world is an alert world. Individually, we’re all responsible for our own thoughts and actions – all day, every day.
We can all choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality. We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women’s achievements. Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world.
From challenge comes change, so let’s all choose to challenge.

Celebrating Women in the RAF
According to The UK Armed Forces Biannual Diversity Statistics, at 1 October 2020, 11.0 per cent of the UK Regular Forces were female (16,110 personnel). Out of the three Services, the RAF has the greatest proportion of female personnel in the Regular Force at 14.9%.
- 2018 marked the 100th year that women have served in the RAF.
- For International Women’s Day, the RAF has collected stories celebrating women and their connections to the RAF.
