Are you Serving in the RAF or left in the past 5 years? Do you identify as female? Volunteer to take part in new research to impact future diversity and inclusion policy development in the RAF.
The research project, which aims to understand how gender and ethnicity impact service experience, is now recruiting serving and veteran females to share their experiences. Supporting this research helps develop knowledge and understanding of integrating and practicing inclusion in the RAF.

RAF Diversity – Research Background
The benefits of organisational diversity are compelling and well known. Because of this, the RAF is committed to recruiting and retaining service personnel with maximum diversity to “Harness the power of difference to deliver operational capability” (RAF, 2024). However, the RAF struggles to recruit and retain service personnel from diverse backgrounds. Significantly, there is no research which considers how a persons gender and ethnicity, nor the drive to harness diversity actually impacts service experience.
About the researcher
My name is Amy Hill, and I am a PhD student researcher at Newcastle University, a former RAF Regular and now RAF Reservist. This research project “An intersectional study of gender and the RAF” is borne from my own experience of RAF organisational culture and a desire to impact change.
Research support
Whilst externally funded, the project has support and approval from RAF Director People and results will be used to directly impact future RAF policy direction on diversity and inclusion.
