Royal Air Force Brize Brize Norton welcomed Mrs Kate Wigston, the wife of the Chief of the Air Staff, as she officially opened the Coworking Hub; an exciting new initiative and only the second one within the Royal Air Force.
The Coworking Hub provides a professional space for spouses and partners of those at RAF Brize Norton to work, study or seek employment; a network of shared workspaces located on military bases, for the use of spouses and partners of the personnel based there.
Over recent years there has been an increasing awareness of the obstacles that may be faced by military spouses and partners who want to pursue their own career.

“Working from home can be isolating and lonely, and by creating a co-working office space within the station, it will actively encourage people to come together to work independently but gain the daily face to face connections that are so vital for healthy living.” Tor Johnson, Coworking Hub Co-Founder
Homeworking for some or all of the week can also be a good option for RAF family members, especially if it allows you to keep the same job when moving to a new area – whether freelance or under contract. With Flexible Working now available to Service personnel homeworking could also become an increasingly attractive choice for Serving couples who are not co-located.
“I am thrilled that we are launching the Coworking Hub today here at RAF Brize Norton. This is the largest RAF Station with a huge community. We are giving everyone within the RAF community the option to come together, share ideas and build friendships. Not only is this an excellent opportunity to combat loneliness or isolation, it is also an opportunity to network, build confidence or just to talk.” Liz Hart, Coworking Hub Co-Founder
The military coworking network is The hub, it gives everyone, a chance to mix.
Liz added:
“We are really looking forward to watching the Coworking Hub grow. We will be working closely with small business in the area and with local colleges for further education opportunities.”
