Branded Reading Force slide with a pile of books suitable for adult readers.

Thursday 1st September 2022

Do you love reading? Reading Force Book Club Ambassador, Nicola Hill is looking for volunteer co-ordinators to setup book clubs in military communities for Serving personnel (Regulars and Reservists), Veterans, spouses/partners and Service children, which include overseas locations!

You could be a Welfare Officer, Community Development Officer, Choir Leader, Service Children’s champion, or someone who just loves the world of reading and passionate about helping others enjoy the same journey.

Throughout the pandemic, Reading Force’s online book clubs were created in military communities all around the world, and they continue to remain just as popular. Some of our book clubs are online, others are meeting in person, and several are choosing to continue beyond the three free books from Reading Force (updates will be posted on our website and social media in the coming months for some great ideas on how to keep your book club going).

Nicola adds:

Hi everyone, I’m Nicola Hill and I am delighted to have been warmly welcomed into the Reading Force team as Book Club Ambassador.

“As an Early Years and Key Stage 1 teacher, I have been sharing books and encouraging reading for pleasure with the children in my class for many years. Story time was the highlight of the day with my class, and I am excited to share my passion for reading with others through our Reading Force community.”

Why run a book club

A book club can help people feel more part of their community, building a strong sense of connection and reducing feelings of isolation. Reading the same book can also connect people for longer than a telephone call or chat online. Book clubs are a fantastic way to have fun.

With a fantastic selection of books available to our members (for free!), there will be something for everyone at your book club.

Choose from a range of award-winning titles and authors including:

  • the million-copy No.1 bestseller The Island by Victoria Hislop,
  • Waterstones Book Club choice The Unexpected Inheritance of Inspector Chopra by Vaseem Khan,
  • or the multi award winning Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman.

Head over to the Reading Force website to see the available titles for all our book clubs.

Thanks again to Reading Force, our members enjoyed the variety of the books and definitely read things they wouldn’t otherwise have done.”
