Vote for your favourite photo in the Royal Air Force’s annual photography competition, kindly sponsored by the Royal Air Forces Association.
Judging for the 2019 Royal Air Force Photographic Competition recently took place at the Royal Air Force Museum Hendon. Over 1,000 photos and 30 videos were entered across the competition’s 13 categories, with the best 9 images being whittled down by 3 industry professional judges, before going head-to-head online to win the ‘Peoples’ Choice’ category.

Voting will close at midnight on Wednesday 25 September, with the winner being announced on Thursday 3 October at an Awards Ceremony at the Bentley Priory Museum, home to Headquarters Fighter Command during the Battle of Britain.
Nick Bunting, Secretary General of the RAF Association – the charity that supports the RAF family, said:
“Every one of the hundreds of entries reminds us of the skill, professionalism and sacrifice of our serving personnel, so we’re thrilled to be supporting this competition.”
This year’s judges included: freelance photographer Edmond Terakopian, Martin Keene from the Press Association and Jim Hedge, picture editor at The Guardian.
Edmond Terakopian said:
“The pictures on show are of a phenomenal standard. Some very well thought out photography and it’s not simply uncontrolled action but some amazing images that have required a great deal of thought that have married creativity with timing perfectly. The level of photography has been fantastic.”
Martin Keene said:
“I’ve seen some absolutely stunning photographs, the RAF have brilliant photographers. They get to capture the whole range of RAF’s equipment and personnel across the world and it’s resulted in some great photography on show today and I’ve loved every minute of it.”
Jim Hedge said:
“I thought the standard overall was very extremely high quality, the spread of extremely good photographs showing the different range of subjects that you cover is a testament to the work that you do.”
